Can’t decide what hot tub to purchase? Feeling overwhelmed when trying to identify what makes a quality hot tub?
There are a lot of things you need to know before buying a hot tub, making it hard to know how to identify a quality hot tub that you will love and enjoy for years to come offering you a world of benefits.
To simplify the decision-making process, the Blue Lagoon Wellness team have broken down the 5 key questions you must ask before buying a hot tub.
#1 How Much Room Do You Need Around A Hot Tub?
If you’re looking to have a hot tub installed indoors or outdoors, it is a necessity to have enough room around the outside of the hot tub not only so you are able to enter and exit the hot tub safely but also for any maintenance that may be required.
For this, we recommend choosing a space that will offer you about 0.5 meters to 1 meter around all sides and back paneling of your new hot tub ensuring you can enter and exit the hot tub without any disruptions as well as being able to access the inner workings at any time.
#2 How Many People Can Be In A Hot Tub At Once?
Depending on the range and type of hot tub, they typically range in width from 5 feet to 9 feet, and range in height from 29 inches to 39 inches.
This allows for a range of different standard hot tub seating capacities with smaller hot tubs being between 2 and 4 guests with larger hot tubs comfortably accommodating up to 7 people.
In some hot tubs, you’ll find specialist seats, such as in our X2000 SwimCross Swim Spas which offers a unique cool-down seat for allowing you to soothe your body after a workout.
#3 How Often Do I Have To Drain My Hot Tub?
How often you drain and clean out your hot tub depends on how often you use it. Having operated and maintained hot tubs for over 25 years, we recommend aiming to completely drain and clean your hot tub about three to four times a year.
Roughly taking around an hour to drain and clean your hot tub, the task might seem long at the time, however, this is only 4 hours out of the 8760 hours in a year to ensure you have crystal clear and healthy water that is safe for you and your loved ones to enjoy.
Although completely draining and cleaning your hot tub should be done three to four times a year, it should be sanitised weekly and routinely treated with hot tub chemicals.
#4 How Much Energy Does A Hot Tub Use?
With constantly changing energy prices, it’s always good to keep on top of how much energy your hot is using daily. On average, a hot tub uses between 3.5 and 6 kWh per day of electricity, but several factors will impact the amount of energy they use and how much you spend:
- The temperature surrounding your hot tub
- How frequently you use the hot tub
- The amount of time you have the jets turned on
- The temperature you have your hot tub running
- The length of time you use the hot tub each session
Although a daily soak is always worth it, be sure to keep an eye on your daily expenditure and don’t stay in the hot tub too long.
#5 How Long Do Hot Tubs Last?
As an exclusive wholesaler of HotSpring Spas based in Cheshire servicing Staffordshire and Shropshire our range of hot tubs is built to last being manufactured with quality and energy efficiency at its core.
However, many different factors play into the lifespan of an at-home hot tub from how often it is used to whether the maintenance is kept up regularly.
Besides the build of a hot tub, consistent maintenance affects how long a hot tub will last. If a hot tub is properly taken care of, you’ll notice the results as your water stays clearer for longer and repairs are kept to a minimum expanding the years of operation with the average well-maintained hot tub lasting for up to 20 years.
